The Ultimate Drawing Setup for Digital Artists: My Personal Specs
Introduction
One of the most frequent questions I get from budding artists and curious readers is, “What do you use to create your digital art and webcomics?” So, I thought it was time I lift the curtain and give you an inside look into my drawing setup. I’ll outline the specifics that make my creative process seamless and enjoyable. I’ll make updates to this page as things change.
Hardware
1. Drawing Tablet: Wacom Cintiq 16
- Screen Size: 15.6-inch
- Resolution: 4K UHD (1920 x 1080)
- Pressure Sensitivity: 8192 levels
- Price: Around $800
- Why I Love It: Sometimes I like working directly on an image so this is useful for that.
2. Computer: Mac (13-inch, 2020)
- Processor: 3.10 GHz 8-core M1 Chip
- RAM: 8GB
- Storage: 256GB SSD
- Price: Around $650
- Why I Love It: I’m kind of locked into the mac ecosystem.
3. Parblo PR 100 Drawing Tablet Stand
- Price: Around $40
- Why I Love It: I use it to prop up my drawing tablet which helps reduce neck strain.
Software
1. Clip Studio Paint
- Version: EX V.2
- Subscription: One-time payment of $219 (I upgraded from the PRO. You can often find sales on CSP.)
- Why I Love It: It’s excellent for manga and comic book layouts, and there are so many helpful free brushes to use in their asset store.
Accessories
1. Toshiba Canvio Basics 2TB
- Why I Love It: For securely backing up all my artwork and project files.
Conclusion
You definitely don’t need all of these things at once. And there are probably better and cheaper alternatives.
